Laying bricks
Laying bricks is both fun and easy. All you need is the right tools and some Cement Australia Mortar Mix. Take a bag of Cement Australia’s Mortar Mix, add enough water to form a stiff consistency. A sloppy mix will not hold the brick in position. Remember to mix only enough mortar that can be used within an hour. If you want to colour your mortar, Cement Australia have a wide range of colours to choose from which you can mix at this point. Lay the bricks out on the foundation to determine position, don’t forget the 10mm allowance for the joint. Now you’re ready to start.
With your brickies trowel, lay enough mortar down for two bricks. Using a stepping action down the middle of the brick, create a hollow. Tap the brick into place with the trowel handle. ‘Butter’ the next brick on the end for the vertical joint, again enough for the 10mm joint. Tap into place and repeat this process. Be sure you get straight level courses by using a spirit level constantly. Before the mortar dries dress the joints and remove excess mortar as you go.
If you like a rendered look, Cement Australia has a pre-mixed product, Render It, which is easy to use and gives a great finish.
