Safety hints

1. Dry cement on the skin will cause discomfort. Always avoid contact by wearing gloves and protective clothing.

2. When cutting bricks or concrete with a chisel or cutting blade always wear goggles to protect the eyes from flying chips.

3. The dust associated with cement or concrete may be hazardous to your health so wear a gauze face mask as a safeguard.

4. Always use your wheelbarrow or hand truck when shifting bagged products.

5. Protect your back when lifting heavy loads like bagged products – especially lifting in and out of your vehicle. Keep your lower back in its normal position and use your leg muscles to lift, keeping your head up. Pick up your feet to twist and turn – do not pivot your spine. Use your leg muscles and back to lower in the same manner as lifting.

6. Skin complaints such as Dermatitis can result from contact with wet cement based products. Gloves should always be worn – preferably P.V.C. heavy duty rubber gloves offer some protection but fabric gloves must not be worn when wet.

7. Always separately wash out clothes splashed with cement based products at the end of each day.

8. Keep wet mortar or concrete out of eyes by wearing goggles to avoid irritation.

9. Always carefully plan all of the steps of the project, don’t rush into the job to get it done and don’t work when you are tired. That’s when accidents and mistakes happen.
